EXTRACTIONS IN SAN DIEGO
Tooth pain can be debilitating, and sometimes the only way to get rid of it is to have the tooth extracted. Here at First Impressions Dental, we specialize in tooth extractions. Whether you have a damaged or decayed tooth, or your wisdom teeth are starting to cause pain or discomfort, our experienced and skilled dental team can help. We understand that the thought of having a tooth extracted can be daunting, but we will do everything we can to make sure the procedure is as quick and painless as possible.
What to Expect During a Tooth Extraction Procedure
During a tooth extraction procedure, our first priority is ensuring your comfort. We will numb the area around the tooth with a local anesthetic before beginning the extraction. Once the tooth has been removed, we will provide you with post-operative instructions and prescribe any medication necessary for pain management and/or infection prevention.
It is normal for some bleeding and swelling to occur after a tooth extraction. To help reduce bleeding, bite on a gauze pad for 30-45 minutes immediately after the procedure. You should also apply ice to your face for 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off during the first 24 hours after the extraction.
Why Would I Need a Tooth Extraction?
There are several reasons why you might need to get a tooth extracted. Some common reasons include:
- The tooth is so damaged that it can’t be repaired with a filling or crown
- The tooth is severely decayed
- The tooth is infected
- The tooth is preventing other teeth from coming in correctly (wisdom teeth)
- You need to make room for orthodontic treatment
As you can see, there are many reasons why someone might need to get a tooth extracted. If you think you might need an extraction, the best thing to do is schedule an appointment with your dentist so they can assess the situation and recommend the best course of action.
Whether you’re dealing with damaged or decayed teeth, wisdom teeth pain, or overcrowding issues, our team at First Impressions Dental can help you by extracting your tooth or even multiple teeth.
